"I shut up that part of my brain and just started writing it."

It's been a while since I talked about Who Killed Hermes?, my Greek mythology novel. That's not just because I haven't been blogging, it's also because I had a little bit of a block.
The downside of spending over a month researching and another month world-building with all of the little details, and my plotting wall with string and post-it notes, is this: There is so much stuff. For a little while, it was a bit overwhelming trying to figure out how I wanted it all to connect together -- things with the Greek gods themselves, things with the mortals and how the world developed with the pantheon being the real deal.
I broke out of my block a few days ago, and that quote is from a post that I made in /r/writing whem someone was having a similar problem to mine. Just shut up that part of your brain and start writing. I'd forgotten how it felt to write that way, having tried outlining and planning everything first with WKH?, and that was where my block came from. My writing has never really been the whole "outline everything, write to the outline". For me, it's a discovery.
So, now I'm going to go write some more. Over the last few days, I've written 1000+ words. It's a start!

SURPRISE!

Okay, there's no surprise. You caught me. The surprise is a lie.

BUT, what isn't a lie is that I'm going to be working on three writing things tonight, when I wake up. Yes, I'm filling the first of my nights off with unpaid 'work'. But it's work that I love, so that makes it a little better, right?

Two of the writing projects are involving Alexandra, over at The Tsaritsa Sez - she's looking for guest posts, which I'll be helping with by providing one. The second is for the currently-in-the-works edition of her zine, which means I'll be a published writer. Not a PAID writer, but it all starts somewhere. The theme of this issue is "Surprise" (hence the title), any suggestions on things I could write -- I'll take ideas for fiction or non, and no guarantees I'll use it, since I'll be working on it tonight.

The third will be one of my own projects. I'll be researching the best I can, and then talking to one or more of my military knowledge people for more research on the specifics of things.

It'll be a good night, full of wonder, excitement, and wonder. And hummus. I found a really good "pretzels and hummus in one container" thing at Swanson's yesterday, getting more of them tonight. But, for now, sleep.

I'm not dead!

Although I can see why you'd think that, since I've been really inactive on here, with no real excuse for it. I'll be sure to submit myself for a public flogging soon, but for now, let me go over the last month -- (MONTH?! Nobody told me it'd been a MONTH since I blogged last!) -- and update you all. :)

It's October! One of my favorite months, because it's the start of that magical time of year when you can say that you want pumpkin pie or other magical pumpkin-flavored things, and people don't look at you funny. Seriously, are there many things in this world better than a good pumpkin pie?

Another good thing about October:

Other than enjoying the occasional bit of pumpkin-related awesome, I've been working a lot, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's great because I like that whole "money" thing, and being able to do grown-up things like "pay bills" and "pay bills" and... is there anything else I do with my money? Come to think of it, not really that much. I do get myself the occasional fun thing, like a CD or a book. The most recent CD purchase? Textures' "Dualism" album, which is AWESOME.

TEXTURES!!! MOTHERFUCKING TEXTURES!!!!!
You guys, I've been enjoying this CD far more than I should be. I've even taken it to work so that I can use the CD player at work instead of listening to the crappy radio stations we have in this area. So far, nobody has complained, so I'll probably keep doing it until I get tired of it. Or until I get a new CD, whichever comes first -- and I've been looking at the latest album from 3, so that might be soon.

So, that's the long and short of things lately. Lots of work (still working the graveyard shift at 7-11), lots of jamming out to Textures. All in all, I can't really complain too much.

I've also been prepping for NaNoWriMo -- my third attempt, and I'm determined to succeed and not let Real Life stop me from finishing again. I've got an idea that I really like, and I'm already eager to start writing on it. This is my year, and I'm going to have a novel by the end of November... or at least part of one, since I think 50,000 words might be a little short. Depends on how much story I can tell with this idea. :)

The one where I’m Super Excited!

YES! It’s true! Despite the various woes of life and the dreariness of job-searching in this little town, I really am Super Excited!

What’s got me in such a great mood, you may ask. Is it the fact that I’ve got Random Ramblings back to regular updates after some serious slacking off from mid-December until yesterday? Maaaaybe. Is it because I have my payday this Friday and get my income tax the following week, which means I’ll be able to buy the plane ticket for my trip? Maaaaybe.

But what is REALLY causing my Good Mood and general Super Excited-ness is… WRITING! I’ve been looking at submissions guidelines for comic book companies, and came away from it surprisingly hopeful! This got me brainstorming ideas, and I’m happy to say that I’ve started outlining one of them.

As per most of the companies’ submissions guidelines, I’ll be outlining the entirety of the story, which will probably mean going with a miniseries instead of an ongoing. Completely cool with me, since limited series have a much higher chance of a company risking money that they would waste if they had to cancel an ongoing due to shitty sales.

I’ve also got a semi-local friend who might be doing the art for my project, provided she’s interested in what I come up with! If everything goes according to my very loose time-table, I should have a submission ready to be sent off by summer – late summer, if things deviate from the plan.

Hope you will keep following along! If everything works out, I’ll spoil little bits here, like whatever the final title ends up being and such. Maybe even some art here and there! Wouldn’t that be cool?

In consideration of others, please check your sanity at the door…

… because I sure as hell have.

While I would have previously considered myself on the edge of sanity – despite statements of my own, my peers, and three licensed professionals that I was well past the edge – I can now agree with them, that I must be, in a few vulgar words, fucking batshit crazy. ‘Why change your mind now?’, you may ask, and I have an answer. Or, more accurately, three answers.

  1. National Novel Writing Month
  2. Random Ramblings
  3. 30 Days of Truth

All of that is going on in November, which means that I will be [A] working on a 50,000-word (minimum) novel, [B] writing reviews and other blogs for my main site, and [C] blogging on this site with a “30 Days of Truth”, where thirty days of posts follow a specific list, sort of a series of ‘honesty prompts’.

On top of all of that, I have also started up a third blog called LOLitics and ReligiFAIL, where I’ll be discussing any/all things related to religion and politics. I predict that the majority of my posts will be rants, either at things that are happening, or things that could happen, or against religious retards, like the “Rants Against Religious Stupidity” that I’ve done a few times on Random Ramblings.

If I’m not crazy now, then I fully expect to be at the end of November, when all this shit (should be) over and done with. So hop on the ride and watch me lose my fucking mind! =]

Today is a great day

Ever have one of those days where it feels like nothing can go wrong? For me, that’s today, and I fucking LOVE it.

Today started off kind of rough. I was tired as hell at work from midnight-ish to around 5 or 6am. Started waking up a bit more around then (which figures, since it was just a little before I got off work), and the coworker who was relieving me is the new one that I’ve got an interest in. =D

So after watching a fun episode of Supernatural and writing out a list of things I need to buy soon(ish), I went to sleep around 11am. Got a decent amount of rest, and woke up pretty happy around 6pm. Caffeine soon followed, since I’m not entirely sure I’m human without it (especially since I’ve been without nicotine for two weeks), and then I had a fit of brilliance! … BOOSTER GOLD MOVIE!

For now, that’s the only image I’ve got for ya, but I’m going to see what I can do pretty soon. I’ve spent the last hour or so trying to work out an image in Photoshop the way I want (with the actor I want in the costume), but as I’ve mentioned on my main site, I’m not that great with Photoshop.

I suppose I could have at least thrown a mock version of film poster credits on to there too, but not so much without the actor I’m thinking of for Booster. A friend of mine that I moderate with at 9thWonders is going to be getting a message about it veeery soon, see if he can help out. =D

Anyway, yeah. I’m really excited because this day got a lot better when I got the idea to write a Booster Gold movie. It’s not only the first real fit of inspiration in a long time, but it’s the first thing in quite a while that’s just felt really right. I think I’m going to have a lot of fun with it.

I’ll leave you with that, and in the style of Blue Beetle Ted Kord (who has a good chance of being in the movie), I leave you with this: BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA!
